چکیده

Leaves of Monteverdia ilicifolia (“espinheira-santa”) are considered a medicinal tea by the Brazilian Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), their anti-dyspeptic, anti-acid and protective gastric mucosa properties. Their spiny margins similar to those other botanical species, which may lead misidentifications. The aim this work was evaluate authenticity 32 samples herbal drugs commercialized as “espinheira-santa” in formal trade Brazil, macro microscopic morphological studies leaves. evaluation based on leaf venation patterns, shape anatomy petiole midrib region cross section, vascular system arrangement epidermal characters. Analysis these characters compared literature data suggests that 34% M. remaining 66% Sorocea bonplandii, species with no clinical assuring its effective safe use, representing thus potential risk public health.

Chemical variation of tannins and triterpenes in Brazilian populations of Maytenus ilicifolia Mart. Ex Reiss.

Maytenus ilicifolia and Maytenus aquifolia species are widely used as a cicatrisation agent, an anti-spasmodic, contraceptive, antiulcerogenic, diuretic and analgesic. Considering the importance of these species in popular medicine, this work is focused on the determination of the chemical content of tannins and the triterpenes friedelan-3-one, friedelan-3-ol and friedelin in 15 native populati...

Intra and inter populational genetic variability in Maytenus ilicifolia Mart. ex Reiss. 1861, through RAPD markers.

Maytenus ilicifolia is a medicinal plant largely used in the South Brazilian folk medicine. The aim of this study was to quantify the intra and inter populational genetic variability in three populations of M. ilicifolia, focusing on the genetic conservation of this species, which has been threatened by anthropic action. RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) markers were used to analyze 30 pl...

Genetic diversity and conservation of native populations of Maytenus Ilicifolia Mart. ex Reiss.

The aim of this work was to analyze genetic variability in 18 populations of Maytenus ilicifolia, and representatives of Maytenus aquifolia and Maytenus evonymoidis, collected in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, using RAPD molecular markers. Considering total samples of the three species, 263 amplified fragments were identified, of which 72.2% show...

A comparative chemical study of Maytenus ilicifolia mart. reiss and Maytenus robusta reiss (Celastraceae).

This work describes a comparative qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of Maytenus ilicifolia and Maytenus robusta (Celastraceae), extracts by high-resolution gas chromatography (HRGC), using external standards as the method of determination and thin layer chromatographic (TLC). The results show that both plants have a similar chromatographic profile. However, M. robusta exhibited abo...

Liquid Yield and Chemical Characterization of Maytenus Ilicifolia Mart. Ex Reiss Extracts Obtained from Co2 at High Pressures

This work is focused on the chemical characterization of Maytenus ilicifolia extracts obtained from high-pressure CO2 extraction. The experiments were performed in a laboratoryscale unit, where the effect of particle size (35-200mesh), CO2 mass flow rate (1 to 3gmin), temperature (293 to 323K), pressure (100 to 250bar), and extraction time was investigated in terms of liquid yield and chemical ...
